A healthy, active lifestyle is as good as good mental health even for a wheelchair user; while the two are separate entities, they are very important.
Physical health depends on a balanced diet and a reasonable amount of active movement, while mental health is down to a perfectly synchronized body, mind and soul. For the mind to feel nourished and at ease, these three must fall in line with each other and know what each need.
While the two might thrive on account of different inputs, there are substantial lifestyle similarities that contribute to the wellbeing of both. For example, eating a balanced diet and exercising moderately or actively if you can may warrant good physical health, but it also contributes significantly to good mental health. Moreover, if you feel comfortable in both body and mind, pursuing good physical habits will not be much of a hassle.
In regard to the above, here are some critical hints and tips to a healthy, active lifestyle:
Drink Enough Water
Your body and mind cannot work in harmony if you do not treat them accordingly and supply them with enough water. If you hydrate your body, you will not only think, work and sleep well but you will also be braced better to handle any business of the day or night. It could be hard if you have incontinence issues such as cold months or inaccessible bathrooms, but it is imperative to try the best you can. It is not healthy to neglect your body’s need to stay hydrated.
Strive To Raise Your Heart Rate
Not everyone has the grace to get up for morning runs or any kind of run. However, engaging in some moderate exercises, between 20 to 40 minutes a day, is critical to strengthening your body and giving you a clear mind. You do not have to engage in strenuous exercises, just enough to lead you out of breath slightly. Stretch and push, these are ideal ways of exercising in a wheelchair or go for a swim.
Eat Thoughtfully
It is not advisable to worry or be anxious about what you are eating, but it is important to be mindful of what you eat. A balanced diet is critical to both physical health and mental health. Before you eat, think about what your body needs. Fats and sugars might be required at times, but refrain from consuming them as a habit.
Cut Your Screen Time
It is the truth that workdays rarely end by 5 pm nowadays. Conferences, work emails and other events will follow you home no matter your time zone. However, dinner time conversations and kids’ bedtime stories are essential endeavors that should be on your mind. It can sometimes be hard to be present even at home, but it is worth trying.
Practice Self Care
Caring and being kind to yourself are critical to your good mental and physical health. Do the things that make you happy or are important to you. Sleep enough; possibly 9 hours every night, visit your favorite food joint in town, or read out in the sun. Consequently, you will be surprised how much being kind and caring to yourself impacts your wellbeing.
